Commercial Van Sales In America September 2014 YTD

Americas commercial van segment grew faster than the industry as a whole despite a 10% decline in total Ford commercial vans in September 2014. Overall new vehicle sales were up 9.4%; commercial van sales jumped 11.2%.

The trio of smaller commercial vans - Transit Connect, NV200, Ram C/V - were up 38.2% as the Transit Connect reported a 30% increase and NV200 sales more than doubled. The trio accounted for 22.9% of all commercial van sales. (Notably, Ford does not break down the Transit Connect cargo van and Transit Connect Wagon figures.)

Full-size vans, led by the Chevrolet Express in September, were up 5.1% to 18,995 units. The traditional leader, Fords E-Series, is rapidly winding down: sales fell 37.8% last month, and the new Transits 1225-unit performance did not make up the deficit.

Commercial Van Sales In Canada August 2014 YTD

Compared with August 2013, Canadas commercial van market surged 90%, a gain of 1356 units.

Granted, sales of these vans tumbled 40% a year ago. From the 2498 sales achieved by the category in August 2012, before the small Nissan NV200 and large Ram ProMaster joined the fray.

GMs full-size commercial van duo outsold Fords full-size tandem, the outgoing E-Series and incoming Transit, by 134 units in August. Ford led the small van category with the Transit Connect, sales of which jumped 27%. The Transit Connect, NV200, and Ram Cargo Van accounted for 21.8% of the categorys August volume.

As a result of this August largesse, commercial van sales are up 8% through the first eight months of 2014. Sales in the first half of 2014 were only slightly better than level.

Americas commercial van market decreased in size in October 2014 as year-over-year volume slid 1.5% on poor GM and declining Ford sales.

Although Ford sold 2257 Transits in October 2014, the E-Series its replacing was down by 4796 units.

GMs twins, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana, fell 13%.

The smaller trio of vans, soon to be joined by the Nissan NV200-based Chevrolet City Express, combined to own 25.3% of the category, up from 18.4% in October 2013. Sales of the Ford Transit Connect, NV200, and Ram Cargo Van all increased.
